A Gulfport man will be spending the rest of his life behind bars after pleading guilty to the first degree murder of his wife.
Forty-nine year-old William Douglas Bryant pled guilty at the Harrison County Courthouse. Bryant was charged with killing his wife, 43-year-old Kari Whitley, in May 2017, after calling 911 and stating “I killed my wife. I beat her with a hammer.”
When Gulfport police arrived on scene, they discovered the victim had been deceased for a few days. After pleading guilty, Bryant apologized to the family in the courtroom and stated he remembers striking his wife, yet doesn’t remember many details because he had been drinking heavily that day.
His criminal history shows that he had previously been convicted of domestic violence for assaulting Whitley in 2015.
