Harrison County can expect new features to the beach as Governor Phil Bryant unveiled designs for beach storm water outfalls.
The project will be funded through the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act. This is phase one of constructing three outfalls to be built over existing pipelines.
The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources will assist with the projects to improve the visual aesthetic of the beaches along the Gulf Coast.
Governor Bryant tells News 25 he has a plan to increase tourism by enhancing the presentation of South Mississippi beaches. “Twenty-two million people came to visit Mississippi last year. Thirty-five percent of them came to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. If we bring that to 30,000 then 35 percent of those will change the dynamic here on the Coast. You will see a Destin like environment here. That’s what I’m hoping for.”
After the bid process is completed and the project is rewarded then phase one of construction will be underway.
