This morning, the winners of the first Chevron Maker contest were announced at the FabLab in Jackson County.
The Chevron ‘Fuel your School’ program has been active in Jackson County since 2012. This year, Chevron introduced the maker contest to provide special recognition for outstanding projects in science, technology, engineering, and math.
A Chevron Maker project is anything that gets students tinkering, building, designing, sketching, prototyping, taking things apart, or problem solving.
Magnolia Park elementary teacher Jackie Warrwick was chosen as the winner with her project called ‘Folk Tales with STEM.’ “We want to integrate literature into the STEM as well because it gets them invested. These are stories they are familiar with and that they know about. It makes them excited to dig deep to find these problems and to the solutions I should say,” said Warrwick.
First place came with $5,000 to put towards the projects.
