When the Mississippi Aquarium opens its doors it will bring hundreds of aquatic wonders like alligators, otters, and dolphins to the Coast.
Those are only a few of the animals that aquarium officials are planning for as construction continues. Ric Urban will be acting as the director of animal care and conservation for the Mississippi Aquarium and he tells News 25 they hope to create an environment of learning and fun which he likes to call ‘learnentainment.’
Urban hopes to cultivate this environment by making sure the aquarium offers many chances for patrons to be hands on with animals they may not be used to seeing. “You are going to be able to go through the kid crawl experience and get to crawl into an alligator nest and get to go to the ocean community buildings and touch a sea star and touch a ray and a shark. Having that connection with wildlife to really create these opportunities.”
The aquarium is still set to open in late 2019 or early 2020.
