Are you ready to become a hero in a child’s life? Jackson County CASA is looking to recruit new members.
Tonight at the YMCA in Ocean Springs you could see some officials in Jackson County dressed as superheroes like Judge Sharon Sigalas portraying Superwoman.
This rally’s purpose is to get volunteers to help foster children in the system. Judge Sigalas tells News 25 it is important for children to have their voices heard in court. “The child loves to see their CASA volunteer come, their child protective service worker may change three or four times during their case but their CASA volunteer stays the same. And they know when they come and talk to them and they’re coming to ask them, “what do you want me to tell the judge”? And they love to send me messages about the teenagers want a car, the little ones want a bicycle or an XBOX. But, they love to send messages to the judge. I listen to every one of them. And although, I don’t buy cars and don’t fulfill XBOX’s but, it is good to know what children want.”
If you’d like to become a CASA volunteer you can call the youth court at 228-762-7370 and ask for the CASA program.
