Each piece tells a story whether it is through the distinctive Rodrigue oak or the famous blue dog.

Today, wife of artist George Rodrigue, Wendy Rodrigue, told her husband’s story by bringing his art work to the classroom at Popps Ferry Elementary School.

Wendy says she’s visited hundreds of schools all over the world in an attempt to re-invent George’s story without the star of the show. By bringing in original paintings from their home, Wendy captivated all the young students in the classroom. “When George passed away, I was in a dark place for a long time. When I poked my head out, I thought ‘what can I do to nurture myself.’ and that is, as so often happens in life, give something back to others. So, I thought the best thing I could do is share George Rodrigue with students.”

To close her visit, Wendy gave each student a George Rodrigue painting he created after the attacks on September 11th. Wendy says George’s goal was to mend broken hearts and show how just one person can make a difference in the world.
