It was a special year for the St. Patrick softball program, capped off with a 2A state title back in May. Tonight, the Lady Irish concluded their championship tour at MGM Park.
Prior to the 6:35 first pitch between the Biloxi Shuckers and the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, they were recognized on the field for their fourth state crown in the last seven seasons.
Former Head Coach Tommy Castanedo threw out the ceremonial first pitch and says he will always hold a special place in his heart for the 2018 squad. “This is wonderful to come out and support our Biloxi Shuckers with this wonderful community. We have great administration up at our school and we get a lot of support. Expectations are always to win a state championship. I mean that’s the only thing you can do in high school. There’s nothing after that so you go after a state championship every year.”
St. Patrick finished the 2018 season with an overall record of 22-7-1 as well as an eight-year district run of 59-0.
As for the actual Shuckers game itself, well it’s a Biloxi winner. 2-1 final score over the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. Shuckers closing out the series on a high note before they hit the road.
