The Biloxi Fire Department will now be able to fill every fire station with workout equipment.
This is all thanks to FEMA’s assistant to firefighters grant. The amount awarded to Biloxi totaled over $150,000.
The fire department has applied for this grant in the past, but this year was the first time they were awarded the funds. Biloxi Fire Chief Joe Boney said, “You know our guys are here 24 hours a day every third day and they need to stay healthy. Some of them have the ability to go to other places to do it, but we want them to be able to do it in their house.”
Six other fire departments across the state of Mississippi received grants as well, totaling a little over $850,000.
