It’s an exciting time for Mississippi casinos as they continue to get ready for sports betting. There will be sports betting at many Coast casinos starting Saturday, July 21st.
Casinos across the Coast are going to be taking advantage of this new opportunity and the Palace Casino in Biloxi is no different. The renovations are not going to be taking up too much room. They are taking a section of the Contact Sports Lounge and adding a sports book area. Palace Casino Manager Keith Crosby said, “What we’ve done is lost a couple of seats as a result of putting this in, but we’ve given access to sports betting to the customers that already come here. So, we think it is an enhancement. It’s icing on the cake, but it’s not the whole cake.”
The Palace Casino doesn’t necessarily believe they are going to have people coming to the casino to watch these games, but maybe just to place bets. “I think what we’re going to see is a person run in to make a bet on Tuesday for a game on Saturday or when they’re in the area,” said Crosby.
The area where sports betting takes place will have at least four tellers that people can place their bets with. They will also have at least 20 TVs on the wall with odds of the games people will be betting on.
Placing bets will be easy as walking up to a teller and placing your wager on your desired team. There are not going to be any added fees to bet on a game. It will be the same as wagering your money on a blackjack game or a slot machine. “One of the things we’re conscious of is that this is going to be new to a lot of people and what we also understand from talking to our partners William Hill is that once its explained it’s pretty simple. It’s very customer friendly,” said Crosby.
Crosby says once the Palace gets their feet on the ground with sports gambling and regulators become comfortable, he hopes to add elements like in-play gambling and mobile access, but he says those features are down the road.
The Palace plans to have their sports book up and running by August 16th.
