More than 90 years after George Ohr’s death he is still being honored in the City of Biloxi.

Today, the Ohr O’Keefe Museum is celebrating what would have been the Mad Potter of Biloxi’s 161st birthday by providing free admission to guests all day. You could make your own pinch pot for $5 and check out all the museum’s popular exhibits.

Steve Barney, the Mad Potter of Bay St. Louis, stopped by the museum to exhibit his pottery project and promote art education. Barney tells News 25 the late Ohr has inspired his style of work. “He was kind of a master of self-promotion and decided to really put on a spectacle and people thought he was a little crazy. I thought, well why not give that a try? Sure enough here we are doing what George did. If George was alive today he would be all over Instagram and Facebook and performing for the kids just like I am.”

Barney says he is very passionate about incorporating STEAM curriculum into Mississippi classrooms. He says he uses his work to inspire future generations.
