The City of Ocean Springs Board of Aldermen passed a motion today to seek sanctions against the Mississippi Rising Coalition.
They are the plaintiffs in the litigation regarding the city flying the state flag on municipal properties. Earlier this week, a federal judge dismissed the lawsuit against the city.
In court documents, Judge Louis Guirola points out that a plaintiff must be harmed, directly or indirectly, by discriminatory housing practices to seek legal action under the Fair Housing Act.
The decision to seek sanctions was made by the board of aldermen in a special meeting held this morning.
