This morning, a scary situation turned into a traffic nightmare near the Harrison/Hancock County line as a truck caught fire on the interstate while loaded down with live ammunition.
The westbound lane of I-10 was completely shut down with traffic backed up for miles. The fire broke out at around 6:30 a.m. just before the Highway 603 exit in Diamondhead.
The driver told News 25 the flames were the result of a blown out tire, which burned up, spreading to a camper that was in tow and igniting ammunition in the back of the truck.
The incident led to several other accidents, but no major injuries were reported.
The interstate was cleared up and traffic returned to normal after about two hours.
