After racking up back-to-back-to-back state titles from 2012 to 2014, it had been a while for the St. Patrick softball program, but 2018 was the year of the Lady Irish who took home the 2A crown on Friday.
Tonight, they were celebrating their new hardware over some pie at Tony’s Brick Oven Pizzeria in Gulfport. Win or lose, St. Patrick holds this post season awards banquet every year and there were plenty of certificates and plaques to go around.
Ace of the pitching staff Anna D’Aquilla was named all-district MVP as well as MHSAAA all-state alongside Anna Grace Castanedo as well as twins Raven and Raylen Blackwell. “We’re having our softball banquet and we have it every year and it’s just a time to kind of get together and think about everything that happened during this season and get some awards and eat some good food and just enjoying each other’s company,” said D’Aquilla.
Raven Blackwell said, “It still feels the same as it did as if we just won it because basically we did. But it’s exciting, it’s always a good feeling whenever you know that you’ve, this is what you strive for at the beginning of the season and we accomplished it.”
St. Patrick finished the 2018 season with an overall record of 22-7-1 as well as an eight-year district run of 59-0.
