Slap Ya Momma’s Barbecue in Biloxi caught fire this afternoon sending one to the hospital.
According to the Biloxi Fire Department, the call came in around 5:00 this afternoon of smoke coming from the building. Fire crews responded and were able to contain the flames that started in the back wall of the porch area by the kitchen however one firefighter was sent to the hospital with minor injuries to his hand.
With this building being empty because the new building is set to open in a few days at their new location across the street, Fire Captain Matt Powell tells News 25 it’s a good thing no one was inside the building at the time. “It’s a very good thing no one was in the structure and it was a very good thing that the call came in when it did. If it would have been at night, with them being in the process of them moving, it could have been a lot worse.”
Officials are ruling out an electrical fire and say the incident is still under investigation as to what could have caused the empty building to catch fire.
