Seabee Base gets K9s, increases security

Security is stepping up at the Naval Construction Battalion Center in Gulfport and new assets have been brought to better protect the base.
Two new K9 military dogs are undergoing training at the Seabee Base. This is the first time the Navy base has had K9s in more than four years.
The dogs are capable of detecting various forms of contraband, harmful threats and will complete training to better defend and protect base operations. Kennel Master Eugene Marstaller said, “Definitely a rewarding accomplishment because it’s a lot of work between administration, logistics, and everything to get all these programs back up and running to support the dogs and to be able to support the base with the dogs. Everybody wants to have another tool in the fight and military working dogs are a unique asset.”
To house the K9s, the base has recently built a $1.2 million state of the art dog kennel.
