South Carolina Head Women’s Basketball Coach Dawn Staley is calling Mississippi State the best team in the SEC. After MSU’s win over Staley’s defending national champions, it’s hard for anyone to argue with that statement.
Not only did the Bulldogs improve to 24-0 last night, they also ended an 11 game losing streak to the Gamecocks. They did so in front of the largest crowd in Humphrey Coliseum history, which was tallied at more than ten thousand strong.
One of the key cogs in the 67-53 triumph was senior guard Blair Schaefer, daughter of Head Coach Vic Schaefer. The sharp shooter says she envisioned this program doing what it is now when she and her family moved to Starkville six years ago. “Honestly, yes. Because I think he is awesome at what he does and he has a vision and when he came here to Starkville, he had a vision and this is what he wanted to create. And so now that it’s happening, it’s so cool to see everything he’s built up flourish so it’s a really proud moment for me.”
Next up for the Bulldogs is a road trip to Florida on Thursday night.
