Duck hunting reminder

Duck season is among us and the Biloxi Police Department wants to remind all their residents that the use of guns in city limits is strictly prohibited.
Biloxi’s code says “it shall be unlawful for any person to discharge any firearms, gun, pistol, or rifle within the city except in necessary defense of person or property.”
Hunting in the incorporated section of Woolmarket has been a common tradition throughout history, but it can now put you behind bars.
News 25 spoke to Biloxi Officer Joey Payne who tells us Woolmarket hunters in violation of city ordinance will now see a stronger enforcement of the law. “That area has been annexed for over ten years now. There is a lot denser population now than there used to be. So we are getting a lot more complaints, just in the last couple months. We have 19 complaints of discharging a firearm in that area. So we have actually set up special detail of officers going out just advising the hunters, hey you can’t do this please stop. It’s gotten to the point now that we are going to have to start doing enforcement.”
People accused of violating the city’s firearm ordinance face a misdemeanor charge. If convicted, a violator could be fined up to $1,000 and could spend as much as 90 days in jail.
