12/5 – Payton’s Tuesday Afternoon Forecast

A cold front continues to make steady progress towards the viewing area. Showers along and ahead of the front will increase today as the cold front moves through the forecast area This morning with bring the brunt of the activity this afternoon/evening. I’m Confident most areas will see showers with the front, less confident at the chance for thunder. There is a brief window this afternoon for Thunderstorms…but this will mainly be a rain event.

The typical clearing out after the front won`t be the case this week as southwest flow aloft brings a continued flow of moisture over the area. That moisture coupled with the cold air will bring periods of cold rain over the area Wednesday and Thursday before an upper trough slowly clears things out Thursday night into Friday. It will be warm today before the front with a sharp drop in temperatures post front. Mid and upper 70s for highs today become 50s Wednesday. Generally 40s north to 50s coast for lows following this front, but colder late in the week to the weekend as skies clear allowing for radiational cooling. Friday morning could bring the threat for MIXED PRECIPITATION briefly before the rain exits the area.
