MGRC finds consortium sponsor renamed Rapiscan Systems Classic

Formerly known as the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic, this popular PGA Tour Champions event has been fleeting in recent years without the help of a consortium sponsor, but those days appear to be over.
The tournament is now called the Rapiscan Systems Classic named after the new title sponsor. Today, the organization held a cocktail reception at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Biloxi to break in the new look for the annual event held at Fallen Oak Golf Club.
Here’s what representatives from both parties had to say about the future of the tournament. Rapiscan Systems Classic Tournament Director Stephen Schoettmer said, “I mean it’s just leaps and bounds. You can look along the tour, all of our tournaments there and all of them have title sponsors and that’s how we’re able to put on events like this. And to have this breakthrough after eight years later is so great for them to see all that hard work and finally pays off.”
Rapiscan/AS&E Vice President for North American Steve McHugh said, “Makes me feel proud to be a part of that and to see that in conjunction with the PGA, Charles Schwab and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. To see all of those things linked together is a special thing for us.”
PGA Tour Champions Director of Business Affairs Jonathan Krakower said, “The event was already great and in good hands and adding a new title sponsor to have somebody and a great corporate partner in Rapiscan put their name on this event only will continue to raise the bar.”
This spring, golfers will descend upon the Mississippi Gulf Coast to play in the Rapiscan Systems Classic for the ninth time. The tournament has been funded by a consortium group for the last eight years.
