Vancleave runner signs with USM

This morning, Vancleave High School senior Lina May signed to continue her track career at the University of Southern Mississippi.
Coaches say that Lina May will be leaving Vancleave High School as one of the most decorated athletes. As they spoke at the signing ceremony this morning, one of the main words they used to describe the runner was elite.
Some of her running accolades include winning three cross country state titles and two track state titles. “I am really excited to sign with Southern. They are a great school. All the girls on the team are really nice people. I can’t wait to be a part of their program. It’s been six years of training hard and eating good and it’s been tough, but it’s definitely been worth it,” said May.
Robert Johnson, Vancleave High School’s track and field coach, tells News 25 May is the first athlete he’s had sign with a division I school since he started coaching.
