Gulfport Fire Department introduces their new toy ‘Pluggie’ to a group of kids from Christian Collegiate Academy.
‘Pluggie’ is a life-size robotic fire hydrant which talks, moves, and most importantly teaches kids about fire safety.
Students were in awe over ‘Plugge’ who spoke to them about calling 9-1-1, never going into the kitchen without mom and dad, plus the dangers of playing with matches. Gulfport fire officials tell News 25 there is only one company in the country that makes ‘Pluggie.’
They felt it was necessary to bring him to the department to make learning about fire prevention fun for young kids. Fire Inspector Tarik Fields said, “He really makes the experience enjoyable for the kids. He’s a great resource it makes learning about fire safety very fun for them and it’s a great way to introduce to them things they didn’t know about fire safety as well.”
If any school is interested in bringing ‘Pluggie’ to their students or touring the Gulfport Fire Station call the department at 228-868-5950.
