Milwaukee Brewers Players of the Month: Jacob Nottingham, Corbin Burnes

Of the seven minor league teams that make up the Milwaukee Brewers’ farm system, the best pitcher and hitter for the month of June both play for the Biloxi Shuckers.
Lost in the shuffle of the Fourth of July, Corbin Burnes was tabbed as the organizational Pitcher of the Month and Jacob Nottingham was named Player of the Month.
The former was a no brainer on the mound with Burnes currently leading all of minor league baseball in ERA at 1.13. Over the course of five starts in June, the man with the goggles posted a record of 2-1 while holding the opposition to a batting average of .165.
As for Nottingham, the Shuckers backstop hit .317 last month to go along with eight runs, seven doubles, two homers, and 11 RBIs. He’s also been the top defensive catcher in the Southern League all season long throwing out 42 percent of base stealers with just two errors.
Nottingham speaks for both award winners when he says teamwork makes the dream work. “I mean it’s not just us, it’s a team thing. Obviously, it’s just feeding off the team and without them we can’t really do anything here without them. We’re putting up runs for him and he’s shutting down the other team, so it kind of helps us and it keeps us going. When we see him have a good pace on the field and our guys get pumped up behind him, and that helps and I think that’s the biggest thing.”
Nottingham hit three of his seven doubles in the month of June on days when Burnes was the starting pitcher.
