Biometrics And Cybersecurity Center Biloxi

The Biloxi City Council is expected to vote on a proposal from Mayor Fofo Gilich to bring a biometrics and cybersecurity center to the city.
The nonprofit corporation would lead to a public private partnership for research and development firms. The center would produce products and materials in fields such as biometrics, nanotechnology, and cybersecurity.
One example is creating the material to make scanner bars on the back of credit cards.
City officials tell News 25 this new center would bring several jobs to the coast.
City of Biloxi Public Affairs Manager Vincent Creel said, “We’re talking about hundreds of jobs. These are not going to be blue collar jobs, they call these new collar jobs, they’re going to be high paying jobs, there’s going to be a lot of research and development involved in these types of jobs, and there’s going to be manufacturing.”
The city council has to make a unanimous vote to approve this proposal in order to quickly bring it to the legislature.
