MGCCC’S Isaiah Buggs Signs with Alabama

Today was the first day of the mid-year junior college signing period. There’s no shortage of local talent heading to the next level. Headlining the class for Mississippi Gulf Coast is Isaiah Buggs.
The nation’s top ranked junior college defensive lineman backed up his commitment to Alabama yesterday by signing with the Crimson Tide this morning. A formality in the grand scheme of things as Buggs reportedly faxed in his national letter of intent on Tuesday so there would be no last minute surprises for Nick Saban and company.
The same can’t really be said for Ed Orgeron and LSU after losing out on the four star recruit despite being considered his favorite for the better part of eight months.
At the end of the day, coaching and opportunity swung the tide for Buggs. “As I chose between the two schools, LSU and Alabama, I looked at the coaching staff and the players who were coming back and the rosters and the depth chart. Alabama is the best fit for me, where I can come in and play and start immediately with the guys that they have leaving and going to the NFL. When I went on that visit, it felt like home and they treated me like I was home. It’s a beautiful place and a nice program that I want to be up under and play up under,” said Buggs.
Buggs is set to enroll at Alabama on January 8th and should be looking at significant playing time right off the bat.
