First Mississippi Gulf Coast Marathon

The first ever Mississippi Gulf Coast Marathon is set for this weekend.
Runners from Mississippi and beyond were registering inside the Coast Coliseum Convention Center’s lobby in Biloxi today, signing up to take part in one of the many races set up along the beaches from Pass Christian to Biloxi. A couple Friday fun runs are taking place tonight. The 5K and kid’s marathon kicks off tomorrow. The Gulf Coast half and full marathon and other activities are on Sunday’s agenda.
Runners tell News 25 why they’re signed up to race on the Coast. Jamie Beaudette is a runner from Orange, Connecticut. She said, “My stepmom and dad live on the Coast and we said what better way to escape the cold from the northeast and run.”
Gulfport resident Gini Fellows said, “We have a strong family history of heart disease. I just started running to be healthier and found that I really love it. I enjoy being out there with everybody and it’s an amazing sport.”
Runners can sign up online or at the Coastal Running Festival’s expo Saturday which is set up in the convention center in Biloxi.
