As gas prices continue to drop, many locals are taking advantage during this holiday season. The average gas price drivers see around South Mississippi is about $1.70. Many drivers along the Gulf Coast say the big break in their pocket books is a huge relief, making this Christmas season more affordable whether they’re doing a bit more shopping or traveling. News 25 spoke to residents who say the lower gas prices made a way for them to hit the road for the holidays. Resident Mickey Kiefer said, “I think certain people, more people, will be traveling by car this season because the gas prices are so low and because airlines are so hectic this time of year and baggage and then they can bring their presents home.”
According to gasbuddy.com, the last time the national average was below $2 during the holidays was in 2009.
