After the storm destroyed its corporate building in Gulfport, Hancock Bank was left with nowhere to operate. The city of Long Beach let bank officials work out of a vacant grocery store near downtown.
Ten years later, the bank just recently moved out of the Long Beach building and today, Hancock Bank officials presented the city with a $2500 check as a thank you.
Chief Operating Officer of Hancock Bank Shane Loper said, “Our entire office got destroyed in downtown Gulfport, our 13 story building there. And we needed a place to move all of our folks. The community surrounded us, just like the community here in Long Beach surrounded everyone. They came to our aid and helped us with all of the necessary things that the city would require to get into the facility.”
The check is for Long Beach’s Main Street Association and bank officials hope a business that will bring more jobs to the city will move into what was their temporary office.
