“We are pleased to commemorate 25 years of grant making across South Mississippi. Due to the support of dedicated donors, we have been able to provide over $66 million in local grant funding and scholarships,” said Rodger Wilder, president of the Gulf Coast Community Foundation. “The Foundation hopes these monthly gifts will allow people the opportunity to enjoy some of our community treasures and spotlight organizations our donors have supported over the years.”
The Biloxi Visitors Center and Lighthouse provide the perfect place to reflect on our community’s past, celebrate the present, and look to the future for our first “Gulf Coast Community Foundation Day” of 2015. One of the most photographed icons on the coast, the Biloxi Lighthouse stands as a symbol of our community’s resilience.
The Biloxi Visitors Center offers state-of-the-art technology and multi-media exhibits to give visitors and residents alike a feel for the Biloxi of yesterday and today. The center also hosts a dozen multi-media exhibits and a movie theater with continuous showings of the 10-minute film “We are Biloxi.”
By hosting a morning where all South Mississippians can visit the Biloxi Visitors Center and tour the Biloxi Lighthouse (free of charge), we are inviting the community to enrich their knowledge of our history. Celebrating local history brings communities together and helps foster civic responsibility to improve everyone’s quality of life.
Upcoming “Gulf Coast Community Foundation Day” birthday gifts will be announced on or around the twenty-fifth of each month for the following month. The Community Foundation would like to invite the broader community to join in our birthday celebration.
