Gulf Coast Grieves Loss of Biloxi Native, Kelei Morris

The Gulf Coast community is grieving the loss of Biloxi native, Kelei Morris, who was 23 years old.

She was shot last week outside her Mobile home and was transported to the University of South Alabama Medical Center with a life threatening gunshot wound to the head. Three days later, she succumbed to her injuries. Monday, one of Morris’ childhood friends spoke with News 25, sharing some of her favorite memories. Nacquel Bennett says she and Morris played volleyball on the St. Patrick team while in high school, and danced at the same studio, becoming like sisters.

Bennett says, “Her smile and laugh, and just, it was just so much fun just to be around her and just to have her nearby. She was very just enjoyable to be around, very loving and caring person and inspired a lot of people.”

Bennett says the last time she saw Morris was after Christmas. If she had one more chance to say goodbye, Bennett says she would want to tell Morris how grateful she is to have had her in her life, and to say one last time how much she loved her.
