As of December 31st, 2013, there were an estimated 10,473 Mississippians living with H.I.V. According to the 2012 National H.I.V. Surveillance Report, Mississippi has the 10th highest rate of H.I.V. infection in the United States. In 2013, there were 556 new reports of H.I.V. infection in Mississippi.

H.I.V. is treatable, but early diagnosis is key. Effective H.I.V. treatments are available that reduce transmission and allow for a long, healthy life. Free, confidential testing for H.I.V. and other S.T.D.s is also available at any county health department.
