Coast Residents Traveling for Thanksgiving Holiday

Many Coast residents are already traveling for the holiday weekend. At the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport, officials say there was a 3% increase in traffic this Thanksgiving.

Across the nation, AAA is projecting air travel to be at its highest level since 2007, with 3.55 million Americans taking to the skies. However, snowy, icy weather in the northeast has caused hundreds of delays at airports throughout the nation. While there were no delays on arriving or departing flights in Gulfport, travelers needing to connect had some difficulty.

Arlen Griffey, a Diamondhead resident, says, “He’s trying to get oversees to Austria for a gig that he’s got to play and he’s been at the desk now for 30 to 45 minutes. Because of the anomalies in travel up north, his connections are getting rerouted or changed or tightened up, and we’re not sure we’re going to get him where he needs to be by Friday morning.”

Airport officials ask travelers to leave plenty of time for possible delays and to check with airlines for any changes to flights.
