Carson, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris Wondolowski strengthened his case for a spot on Jurgen Klinsmann's World Cup roster on Saturday by netting a pair of goals in the United States men's national team's 2-0 defeat of South Korea at the StubHub Center.

With approximately four months until the World Cup in Brazil, competition for spots on the 23-man roster is heating up, and Wondolowski took a massive step forward in achieving that goal by nabbing both goals in Saturday's friendly match.

The San Jose Earthquakes striker wasted no time in giving the United States the lead as he pounced on a rebound conceded by Jung Sung-Ryong in the third minute to nod home the opener from close range.

The Americans held the narrow advantage until the hour mark when Graham Zusi's low cross to the near post was laid off by Landon Donovan, and Wondolowski, not satisfied with just one goal on the night, was first to react as he slammed home the loose ball with a first-time shot.

Nick Rimando was flawless in net at the opposite end, making six saves to preserve the clean sheet and close out the match in style.

The United States men's national team will return to action on March 5 in a friendly match with Ukraine in Kharkiv.
