MLS announces Best XI for 2013 season

New York, NY ( - Major League Soccer announced the Best XI on Tuesday, recognizing the league's top 11 players at each position on the field.

The Best XI for the 2013 season comprises a 3-4-3 formation as players, club leadership, and media members voted one goalkeeper, three defenders, four midfielders and three forwards to the team.

The Portland Timbers led all teams with three players named to the Best XI following a season that saw the Rose City club finish atop the Western Conference.

Reigning MLS Cup champions Los Angeles Galaxy and current MLS Cup host Sporting Kansas City both had two players named, with Robbie Keane, Graham Zusi and Matt Besler receiving back-to-back selections to the Best XI; four teams each had one player.

The Best XI is listed below in alphabetical order within each position:

Goalkeeper: Donovan Ricketts (Portland Timbers).

Defenders: Matt Besler (Sporting Kansas City), Jose Goncalves (New England Revolution), Omar Gonzalez (Los Angeles Galaxy).

Midfielders: Tim Cahill (Red Bull New York), Will Johnson (Portland Timbers), Diego Valeri (Portland Timbers), Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City).

Forwards: Marco Di Vaio (Montreal Impact), Robbie Keane (Los Angeles Galaxy), Mike Magee (Chicago Fire).
