Augusta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - For those wondering if there will be low scores at Augusta on Saturday, Gary Woodland fired a 6-under 30 on the front nine to soar into contention at the Masters.

Woodland flew out of the gate with a birdie at the first and an eagle at the second. After three pars in a row, the two-time PGA Tour winner birdied the par-3 sixth.

The 29-year-old converted a birdie effort on the eighth, then dropped his approach shot at No. 9 five feet from the hole and he rolled that in for birdie and an opening 30.

Woodland became the fifth player to shoot 30 on the front nine. The others were Johnny Miller (1975), Greg Norman (1988), K.J. Choi, (2004) and Phil Mickelson (2009).

If that wasn't enough, Woodland birdied the 10th from three feet out to get to 7-under par for his round. That moved him into a share of second at minus-4.

Nick Price (1983) and David Toms (1998) both shot 63 at Augusta and they share the course record. Johnny Miller was the first to shoot 63 in a major. He did that in the final round of the 1973 U.S. Open and rallied from a 6-stroke deficit to win the title.
