Tanihara hangs on to win by 1 in Japan

Shizuoka, Japan (SportsNetwork.com) - Hideto Tanihara tripped to a 1-over 73 in the final round Sunday, but held on to win the Mitsui Sumitomo VISA Taiheiyo Masters by one stroke.

Tanihara, who turned 35 on Saturday, finished at 13-under-par 275 at Taiheiyo Club Gotemba Course. He picked up his 10th Japan Golf Tour victory.

He started his round with a pair of pars before dropping in a birdie effort at the par-5 third. He ran off 11 consecutive pars from the fourth.

Tanihara faltered to bogeys at 15 and 16, but parred the final two holes to hang on for the win.

Masahiro Kawamura posted an even-par 72 to finish at 12-under 276. After bogeys at 16 and 17, he birdied the last two end one back. Kawamura was joined in second place by Ryo Ishikawa and Tomohiro Kondo, who both closed with 3- under 69s.

Tetsuji Hiratsuka shot 3-under 69 in the final round to take fifth at 11-under 277. Hyung-Sung Kim (67) and Koumei Oda (72) were one back at minus-10.
