Recap: Columbus vs. Anaheim

Columbus, OH ( - Scott Hartnell continued his hot play in the month of March with a hat trick as he powered the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 5-3 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday.

Hartnell notched his third multi-goal effort of the month and has potted 11 of his 25 goals during that span.

Ryan Johansen tallied a goal and an assist, Nick Foligno also scored and Sergei Bobrovsky made 37 saves for the Blue Jackets, who have won four straight games and seven of their last eight.

Ryan Kesler, Andrew Cogliano and Matt Beleskey each lit the lamp and John Gibson allowed four goals on 26 shots as the Ducks dropped their second in a row on the heels of a six-game winning streak.

"All the guys on the ice need to make better decisions with the puck. It's simple as that," said Ducks defenseman and former Blue Jacket James Wisniewski.

Prior to the midway point of the second, Cam Atkinson fired a quick shot that bounced up off Gibson's arm and back down into the crease as Johansen and the Anaheim netminder went crashing into the goal.

After a lengthy video review, it was determined to be a good goal and that the puck crossed the line for a 2-2 game.

Beleskey briefly gave Anaheim the lead after roofing a backhander over Bobrovsky with 9:55 left in the middle frame, but Hartnell scored his second of the night on a wrister from the right circle just 32 seconds later.

The frantic scoring continued as Foligno one-timed a shot through the pads of Gibson to give the Blue Jackets their first lead of the night with 8:12 to play in the second.

Hartnell finished off his hat trick on an empty net with 37 seconds remaining.

"We needed to have this type of win at home," Columbus head coach Todd Richards said. "We haven't had enough of that."

The Ducks opened the scoring with a power-play goal as Kesler flipped a loose puck over Bobrovsky from the edge of the crease just 6:11 into the game.

Cogliano added to the lead by racing through the neutral zone, entering the zone up the right side and backhanding a shot past Bobrovsky with 5:39 left in the first period.

Just over a minute later, Hartnell countered by tipping in Johansen's pass from across the slot for a power-play goal and a 2-1 game.
