Recap: Washington vs. Minnesota

Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - Jason Pominville scored both Minnesota goals in the third period to lift the Wild to a 2-1 victory over the Washington Capitals on Thursday.

Zach Parise assisted on both tallies and Devan Dubnyk made 24 saves in his franchise-record 22nd start for the Wild, who have won four straight games and seven of their last eight.

Curtis Glencross scored and Braden Holtby allowed both Wild goals on 30 shots for Washington, which was without star forward Alex Ovechkin due to a lower- body injury.

"I thought we handled it quite well, actually," said Capitals coach Barry Trotz on playing without Ovechkin. "If you look at the record of the Wild, I think now they're 15-2-2 in their last 19 [games]. They're hot. They're playing really well, and I thought we played them really well, without arguably maybe the best player in the National Hockey League right now."

Pominville scored the game-winner with 5:36 to play after skating up to the left-circle faceoff dot and blasting a shot that went off Holtby's arm and into the net.

The Capitals pulled Holtby with over a minute to play, but Troy Brouwer took an ill-advised goaltender interference penalty. Washington emptied its net once again, but was unable to force overtime.

"I give our guys a lot of credit for not getting frustrated over the course of the game," said Wild coach Mike Yeo. "Again, we had the right mindset as far as how we were defending. We knew that we had to defend well this game."

Washington struck first as Glencross, who was acquired from Calgary on Sunday, wristed a shot from the right circle past Dubnyk 2:51 into the game for a power-play goal.

After a scoreless second period, Pominville tied the game midway through the final stanza when he swatted home the rebound of Ryan Suter's shot for a hard- earned goal.
