Recap: Philadelphia vs. St. Louis

Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Wayne Simmonds netted the game-winning goal with 8:23 remaining, one of three third-period tallies which lifted Philadelphia past St. Louis by a 3-1 count on Thursday night.

Michael Del Zotto and Michael Raffl also lit the lamp for the Flyers, who ended up 2-0-1 on a three-game homestand. Steve Mason came up with 28 saves for the win.

"I thought our guys responded well," said Mason. "Anytime we've been faced with a big challenge against some of the top teams in the league I think we've responded well. That was an effort overall that our guys can be proud of."

Jaden Schwartz provided the sole offense for the Blues, who suffered just their second regulation loss this season when leading after two periods. Brian Elliott stopped 28 shots in defeat.

"There were signs that we played well," said Blues coach Ken Hitchcock. "We didn't have enough participants to win on the road, not near enough."

Del Zotto ripped a shot off the crossbar to even the score just prior to the midway point of the final period, then Simmonds put the hosts ahead to stay by deflecting in a Mark Streit offering.

Elliott was summoned to the bench for an extra skater but Raffl sealed the outcome with 1:13 on the clock.

The Blues dominated stretches of the first period with puck possession, and ended up ahead by one. Vladimir Tarasenko, who came close to scoring on two occasions, passed across to the left wing for Schwartz, and he buried a shot past Mason at 12:52.

Neither Elliott nor Mason flinched in a scoreless second period.

Game Notes

The Flyers haven't been shut out at home by the Blues since Apr. 2, 1970, a span of 59 games ... Simmonds, who leads Philadelphia with 26 goals, recorded his fifth game winner of the season.
