Recap: Vancouver vs. St. Louis

Vancouver, BC (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris Higgins netted the deciding shot in the third round of the shootout, rescuing Vancouver from a worse fate and producing a 6-5 victory over St. Louis from Rogers Arena.

Shawn Matthias, Yannick Weber, Jannik Hansen, Henrik Sedin and Nick Bonino tallied in regulation for the Canucks, who blew a three-goal, third-period lead but recovered to win for the first time in three contests.

Eddie Lack stopped 34 shots over the game's first 65 minutes, then held off T.J. Oshie in the shootout.

Ryan Reaves, Alex Pietrangelo, Dmitrij Jaskin, Petteri Lindbohm and David Backes lit the lamp for the Blues, who have gone 2-0-1 on their current six- game road trip.

Jake Allen surrendered four goals on 25 shots through most of regulation, but was beaten three times in the contest's final segment in defeat. Brian Elliott gave up one goal on six shots during a brief appearance at the outset of the third.

Bonino opened the shootout by beating Allen, and Lack came up with a key stop on Oshie's wrister. It was key because each of the next three players converted their chances: Radim Vrbata next, followed by Vladimir Tarasenko for the visitors.

Higgins finally closed out the game with a shot that beat a leaning Allen high and inside the left post.

Reaves beat Allen just after the three-minute mark of the contest, then Pietrangelo made it 2-0 for the Blues at 5:59.

Matthias tapped in a pass from Higgins to complete a 2-on-1 at 7:24 which put the Canucks on the board and Weber tied the game at 9:40.

Hansen was credited with Vancouver's lead goal just after the midway point of regulation, when his try from behind the net to the right of Allen made it across the goal line before the whistle blew.

Sedin stretched the lead to 4-2 on a power play with 2:08 left before the second intermission by popping home his own rebound.

Bonino's even-strength tally boosted the Canucks' lead to 5-2 with 6:07 elapsed in the third period but that lead was far from secure.

Jaskin brought the Blues within two at 8:18 on a power play, Lindbohm closed the gap to one at 14:19, then Backes slid a shot through Lack's pads only 72 seconds later.

Allen stopped a Bo Horvat break-in with less than three minutes to play, then Lack was saved twice by the iron on shots from Oshie and Jay Bouwmeester.
