Recap: Los Angeles vs. Tampa Bay

Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jordan Nolan and Jeff Carter each scored third-period goals for the Los Angeles Kings in their 3-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday night.

Anze Kopitar scored his first goal in 11 games for the Kings, who received 21 saves from Jonathan Quick.

Nikita Nesterov and Tyler Johnson scored for the Lightning, who opened a five- game road trip with a win at San Jose on Sunday.

Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 25 shots in the loss.

"It was tied going into the third period. We scored one and they scored two in the third, so they didn't lock it down either," said Lightning coach Jon Cooper.

Los Angeles took the lead early in the third when Dwight King dropped a pass off to Nolan, who skated in from the left circle, cut in front of the net and backhanded it in for a 2-1 lead.

"It was a big turning point in the game," Kings coach Darryl Sutter said of Nolan's goal. "I think we scored big goals tonight."

Carter put the Kings ahead by two with 6:01 left in the game when he wristed a shot over Vasilevskiy on a nice feed from Drew Doughty.

With the net empty in the closing minute for Tampa Bay, Doughty could not clear the puck and Nikita Kucherov stepped in front of him before passing to Johnson for the goal with 37 seconds left.

The Lightning continued to pressure Quick in the final seconds, but he turned aside any offering sent his way to help the Kings win their fifth straight game.

Tampa Bay got on the board 12:11 into the first as the Kings could not clear the puck and Nesterov sent a rebound off an Ondrej Palat shot past Quick for his first career NHL goal.

Kopitar then skated up the middle of the ice, received a stretch pass from Trevor Lewis and finished by snapping it under the blocker of Vasilevskiy to tie the game 7:04 into the second.

Game Notes

Kopitar had not scored since Jan. 17 ... King had two assists in the win ... Los Angeles went 0-for-3 on the power play, while Tampa Bay went scoreless on both of its chances with the man-advantage.
