Recap: Boston vs. Columbus

Boston, MA ( - Matt Calvert shook off a stomach virus and a hit to the head, scoring twice in the game's final 3:03 to lead Columbus past Boston by a 3-1 count at TD Garden.

Ryan Johansen tallied in the first period for the Blue Jackets, who put an end to their four-game losing streak. Curtis McElhinney contributed 34 saves to his club's first road win in 11 days.

Carl Soderberg produced the lone offense for the Bruins, who failed in their bid to win a sixth straight game. Tuukka Rask stopped 28 pucks in defeat.

Following a scoreless second period where both goaltenders made eight saves to preserve a 1-1 deadlock, Calvert picked up his club by putting them ahead with just over three minutes remaining. He bravely took the ice after absorbing a hard hit to the head by Soderberg late in the second stanza.

"It was a shot right to his head," fumed Columbus head coach Todd Richards. Following the game, reports surfaced that the NHL will be reviewing the play for possible supplemental discipline.

He remained planted at the right side of the crease and shoveled home the rebound of a Cam Atkinson chance which slid past Rask and laid in the crease.

Rask was sent to the bench for an extra skater in the final minute of play, but Calvert put the clincher into an empty net from just across the red line with 38 seconds left.

"They won more battles than we did, so they were a more determined team than we were," noted Bruins head coach Claude Julien. "I'm disappointed we didn't come to play harder than we did tonight."

Johansen opened the scoring with a power-play marker just shy of eight minutes after first puck drop and 30 seconds after B's defenseman Doug Hamilton went off for hooking.

Chris Kelly then hit Soderberg in stride with a cross-ice pass that ticked off the stick of Loui Eriksson and Soderberg fired home to even the score at 11:34.

Game Notes
