Recap: Nashville vs. Winnipeg
Nashville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Pekka Rinne made 32 saves to back a solid offensive effort as the Nashville Predators continued their winning ways with a 3-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday.
Shea Weber finished with a power-play goal and two assists, Filip Forsberg also scored on the power play and supplied a helper and James Neal sealed the win with a late goal for the Predators, who won their fourth straight game.
Michael Frolik supplied Winnipeg's lone marker and Ondrej Pavelec allowed three goals on 26 shots in defeat.
"I liked a lot of things we did except the result," Jets head coach Paul Maurice said.
Defenseman Tyler Myers and forward Drew Stafford made their Winnipeg debuts after coming over in a blockbuster trade that shipped forward Evander Kane to Buffalo.
Weber opened the scoring late in a power play as he received Roman Josi's pass across the blue line and blasted a shot past Pavelec 4:47 into the game.
The Jets, however, tied the game on a power-play goal of their own with 8:18 left in the opening stanza. Dustin Byfuglien kept the puck in the offensive zone and fired a shot on net that hit off Frolik and went into the net.
Forsberg put the Predators up 2-1 with another power-play tally as he skated up to the right circle and wristed a shot top shelf 3:38 into the second.
In the third, Neal cashed in on a Byfuglien hooking minor by beating Pavelec on a wraparound with 3:50 to play.
Rinne came up big in the final stanza as he made 13 saves to preserve the win.Game Notes
Josi had two assists ... Forsberg scored his 19th goal of the season, which
set the franchise record for goals by a rookie. The previous mark was set by
Alexander Radulov in 2006-07 ... Stafford took a tripping penalty and had two
shots in 14:25 of ice time, while Myers blocked a shot and fired one of his
own in 21:23. Myers limped off the ice late in the third after blocking a
shot and went to the locker room ... The Predators improved their record at
Bridgestone Arena to 23-3-1 and have won 11 of their last 12 home games ...
The Predators improved to 3-1-0 against the Jets this season ... The two
teams will conclude the series on March 7 in Nashville.
