Recap: St. Louis vs. Arizona
St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Alexander Steen and Dmitrij Jaskin scored in the St. Louis Blues' 2-1 victory over the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday.
Jake Allen made 25 saves for the Blues, who snapped a two-game skid.
"I thought we had a lot of guys that really played hard and played the right way, and even saying that, we got a heck of a push at the end," said Blues coach Ken Hitchcock, who with victory No. 692 tied Dick Irvin Sr. for fourth on the NHL's all-time regular-season win list.
Sam Gagner scored the lone goal for the Coyotes, who have lost three of four. Mike Smith stopped 34-of-36 shots.
Gagner gave Arizona a 1-0 lead at 4:42 of the first period. He skated into the offensive zone and fired a shot past Allen.
Steen picked up T.J. Oshie's rebound and jammed it past Smith to tie the game at the 15:10 mark of the opening frame.
The Blues took a 2-1 lead when Jaskin's backhander from the right circle snuck past Smith at 11:08 of the middle stanza.
"You can tell fatigue was a little bit of a factor there, but that being said I thought our third period was our best period. We kept pushing," Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said.
Allen made 13 saves in the third to preserve the victory.Game Notes
