Recap: Edmonton vs. Pittsburgh

Edmonton, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - Marc Andre-Fleury made 22 saves for his league-leading seventh shutout of the season as the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Edmonton Oilers 2-0 on Wednesday.

Fleury tied the franchise record for shutouts in a season, which was set by Tom Barrasso in 1997-98.

"(Fleury) tonight was unbelievable," Pittsburgh defenseman Kris Letang said. "He played a really strong game."

Evgeni Malkin scored in his return to the lineup after missing five games with a lower-body injury and David Perron, who was traded from Edmonton on Jan. 2, lit the lamp for the Penguins, who bounced back from a 4-0 loss to Nashville on Sunday.

Viktor Fasth allowed both goals on 26 shots in defeat and has yet to win a game at home this season. Edmonton has lost three of five.

"I think we're all spectating," Oilers interim coach Todd Nelson said. "Early on, we were just standing around watching and not dictating play."

The Penguins outshot the Oilers 10-5 in the first period, but were unable to solve Fasth as it was a scoreless game after 20 minutes of play.

Malkin, however, put Pittsburgh on the board 24 seconds into the middle stanza after he crashed the net and wristed Mark Arcobello's feed in tight past Fasth.

Letang's blast from the right point was stopped by Fasth, but the rebound caromed off Perron's shin pad and into the net to give the Penguins a 2-0 lead with four-tenths of a second remaining in the period.

Fleury stopped all 10 shots in the final stanza to ensure the shutout.

Game Notes

Malkin hit the 20-goal mark for the seventh time in nine seasons with Pittsburgh and tied Kevin Stevens for sixth place on the franchise's all-time scoring list with 260 goals ... The Penguins improved to 10-2 against Canadian teams this season ... Pittsburgh improved to 6-0-2 in its last eight games against Edmonton ... The two teams will meet again in Pittsburgh on March 12.
