Recap: Detroit vs. Chicago

Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Luke Glendening tallied a goal and an assist to lead the Detroit Red Wings to a 4-1 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday.

Johan Franzen, Tomas Tatar and Brendan Smith also scored for Detroit, which was coming off a four-day rest since suffering a 4-3 shootout loss to Tampa Bay on Sunday.

"It was the first time in four or five games that we looked fast," Red Wings head coach Mike Babock said. "We got engaged and really got going as the game went on."

Jimmy Howard made 25 saves in the win.

Patrick Kane supplied Chicago's lone marker and Corey Crawford made 33 saves in defeat.

"There are two plays that you can't make and all of a sudden it's a different hockey game," Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville said of his team's turnovers. "We gave them the first three goals."

The Blackhawks suffered their first regulation loss in Detroit since Dec. 8, 2009 and had registered a point in 12 straight games, dating back to the start of the 2011-12 season.

The Red Wings scored twice in 70 seconds to take a 3-1 lead early in the second period.

Less than five minutes into the second, Henrik Zetterberg took the puck in the high slot and sent it forward to Franzen, who avoided Crawford's poke check and backhanded a shot over the netminder's glove.

Crawford turned aside Joakim Andersson's shot with his blocker, but the rebound went straight to Tatar, who wristed a shot into a wide-open net at 5:59.

Smith's empty-net tally capped the scoring with 2:09 left.

Drew Miller pounced on a Chicago turnover in the slot. Crawford stopped Miller's shot, but Glendening was there to roof a backhander for a Detroit lead 6:08 into the game.

After Glendening went off for interference, Jonathan Toews dished a pass through the crease to Kane, who wristed a shot past Howard for a tie game at 11:15.

Game Notes

Detroit forward Pavel Datsyuk had an assist in his return to the lineup after missing the past two games with a sore groin ... Kane and Tatar each fired six shots apiece on net ... Franzen moved into 17th place in Detroit history with 185 career goals, passing Sid Abel.
