Recap: St. Louis vs. Tampa Bay

St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Jaden Schwartz scored 1:16 into overtime and the St. Louis Blues slipped past Tampa Bay, 2-1, at Scottrade Center.

Vladimir Tarasenko picked up the other goal for the Blues, who have won six in a row and 11 of their last 12 to challenge Nashville for Central Division supremacy.

Brian Elliott picked up the win thanks to 30 stops. He also reached the franchise record books with an assist on the game-winning goal, the first St. Louis netminder to do so on an overtime goal since Darrell May on Nov. 3, 1985 in a 4-3 win at Winnipeg.

"We escaped with two points," said Elliott. "The way we're playing, the way guys are coming through for each other and the belief we can get it done at the end of the game, that's what's getting us through."

Cedric Paquette provided early offense for the Lightning, who have recorded a point in six of their last seven games (5-1-1). Ben Bishop made just 16 saves.

"They're a ticked off group right now, and they should be. Because ultimately, in the end, we didn't close it out," said Lightning head coach Jon Cooper.

Schwartz won the game for the hosts with a brilliant individual effort. He received a pass from Chris Butler in the neutral zone on the right wing, skated into the Tampa Bay zone, appeared to lose it in a battle with Bolts defenseman Victor Hedman before emerging unscathed and beating Bishop at the left post.

Paquette's 11th of the season gave the Bolts a lead just 5:20 after the opening faceoff, picking up an Alex Killorn rebound.

Tarasenko finally drew the hosts even with 3:10 left in regulation, beating Bishop high to the glove side off a right-circle faceoff win by Paul Stastny.

Game Notes

St. Louis tied a franchise record in gaining a point for the 12th consecutive game, a mark which was last accomplished from Nov. 24-Dec. 26, 2000 (11 wins, on tie) ... Paquette became the first Tampa Bay rookie to score in four straight games.
