Recap: Buffalo vs. Anaheim

Buffalo, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - William Karlsson scored his first two NHL goals in the Anaheim Ducks' 5-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Monday.

Corey Perry, Matt Beleskey and Ryan Kesler also lit the lamp for the Ducks, who improved to 2-1-0 on the young season. Frederik Andersen made 11 saves.

"We knew that team was going to be hungry. We nipped it in the bud right off the bat," said Kesler. "We played a full 60 minutes. It was a solid offensive effort, but our defensive effort was pretty incredible, as well."

Tyler Ennis scored the lone goal for the Sabres, who have yet to win in three games this season. Michal Neuvirth stopped 39-of-44 shots.

"Sometimes if you have nothing good to say, it's better not to say too much," said Sabres head coach Ted Nolan. "That was like an NHL team playing against a pee-wee team."

Perry ignited Anaheim's offense at the 15:30 mark of the first period when he scored a power-play goal from the slot.

Karlsson's first NHL goal took place 8:15 into the middle stanza. He stopped Hampus Lindholm's pass with his skate before beating Neuvirth from between the circles.

Ducks forward Patrick Maroon suffered a lower-body injury at 11:10 of the second and did not return. Maroon was helped off the ice after he took a questionable hit from Sabres defenseman Josh Gorges.

Beleskey made it 3-0 at the 2:56 mark of the third. Ben Lovejoy carried the puck to the bottom of the right circle and fired a shot on net that Beleskey deflected in.

Karlsson's second goal of the game came just 18 seconds after Beleskey's score. He batted a loose puck out of the air and past Neuvirth.

Ennis finally put the Sabres on the board at 6:36 when he lit the lamp off a pass from behind the net by Matt Moulson.

Kesler made it 5-1 when he scored on a penalty shot at the 12:25 mark.
