Recap: Tampa Bay vs. Ottawa

Tampa, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Mika Zibanejad scored the game-winning goal in the third-round of the shootout as the Ottawa Senators defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2 on Saturday night.

Mark Stone and Erik Karlsson each lit the lamp for the Senators, who lost to Nashville in their opener on Thursday. Robin Lehner made 38 saves in the triumph.

"We were pesky and stuck with it," said Ottawa head coach Paul MacLean. "Much of the game didn't go the way we planned it, but we had some good work from the defense and goalie and it paid off."

Brett Connolly and Victor Hedman tallied for Tampa Bay, which was seeking its first 2-0 start in five years. Ben Bishop stopped 32 shots in defeat.

After Zibanejad scored, Steven Stamkos sent his backhand wide of the net as Ottawa escaped with the win.

"I've gone against those guys a lot," said Bishop. "I know their moves. They know mine. I just guessed wrong."

Hedman's power-play goal at the 15:42 mark of the first was the only one in the first two periods. Stamkos had the puck in the right circle, passed to Hedman on the point and he drove his slap shot past Lehner.

Ottawa scored two goals in a 1:36 span in the third to go in front.

Karlsson and Alex Chiasson played give-and-go before Karlsson finished in front to tie it. Kyle Turris sent a pass from behind the net to a wide open Stone and he deked Bishop before hitting the back of the twine to give the Sens a 2-1 lead 9:10 into the third.

Tampa Bay answered just over three minutes later as Connolly's wrister from the right circle whistled past the glove of Lehner.

Game Notes
