Recap: Boston vs. St. Louis

Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Derek Roy scored in the fourth round of the shootout to lift the St. Louis Blues over the Boston Bruins, 3-2, on Thursday.

Roy also scored in regulation for the Blues, who improved to 15-3-3 on the season. David Backes also lit the lamp.

Jaroslav Halak stopped 29-of-31 shots for St. Louis.

Gregory Campbell and Carl Soderberg scored for Boston, which had a brief two- game winning streak snapped. Tuukka Rask made 24 saves.

"I thought it was a real fun game to watch," Boston coach Claude Julien said. "Everything, from my end, except for that extra point that I thought we should have had."

The shootout was tied 1-1 after Patrice Bergeron and Alexander Steen scored in the first and second rounds, respectively. Roy, the final shooter in the fourth round, used a snap shot to beat Rask after Halak bested Chris Kelly.

The Bruins drew first blood with 1:40 left in the first period. After the Blues turned the puck over in their own zone, Campbell beat Halak on a shot from the right circle.

Roy tied the game just 31 seconds later on an innocent shot from the left point. The puck trickled past Rask and into the back of the net.

"We weathered the storm right away and then responded on their goal," Roy said. "And I thought all around we did a good job."

The Blues took the lead at the 16:04 mark of the middle stanza when Kevin Shattenkirk's shot from the right point was tipped in by Backes.

Soderberg's shot from the top of the right circle made it a 2-2 contest with 1:10 remaining.

Halak made 11 saves during a scoreless third period, while Rask stopped six shots.

Less than a minute into overtime, Roy hit the crossbar on a breakaway.
