Recap: Boston vs. New Jersey
Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - The New Jersey Devils scored two power play goals in the last 68 seconds Saturday night to beat the Bruins 4-3 and snap a seven-game losing streak to Boston.
Marek Zidlicky tied the game with 1:08 remaining while the Devils were skating 6-on-3 and Andy Greene scored the game-winner on a 5-on-4 with 44.1 seconds left.
The Devils had lost 11 of their last 12 against Boston, the only win coming April 10, 2011. They had dropped six in a row on the road in Boston, last winning there on Nov. 27, 2009.
New Jersey scored three unanswered goals after trailing 3-1 following the first period. Adam Henrique and Damien Brunner had the others and Martin Brodeur made 25 saves, including 18 total in the second and third periods.
"We were due for some good fortune," Devils coach Peter DeBoer said. "I mean, we haven't had a lot of it through the first 10 or 11 games. And I thought the guys continued to work hard.
"We dug ourselves a little hole early and considering the circumstances, it would've been easy to pack it in and we didn't. We kept chipping away and like I said, we were due for some good luck."
The Devils snapped a two-game skid overall and halted Boston's four-game winning streak.
Torey Krug, Jarome Iginla and Milan Lucic scored for the Bruins. Tuukka Rask made 28 saves.
Zidlicky scored on a slapshot from the point after Krug was whistled for a four-minute double minor for high-sticking and Patrice Bergeron drew a delay of game penalty for sending the puck over the boards. The Devils had pulled Brodeur for the sixth skater.
Brunner whiffed on a shot from the right side, but the puck ended up with Greene on the low left side for the game-winner.
"Obviously we had the lead and momentum, but we let it slip by. We let this one get away from us," said Bergeron.
Earlier, Krug had a power play goal 7:52 into the first period and Iginla made it 2-0 just 1:27 later on a tip-in.
Henrique's power play goal on a rebound at 11:24 got the Devils on the board, but Lucic scored in the final minute of the first to give Boston a 3-1 lead.
Brunner got a power play goal in the last minute of the second.Game Notes
